Bulgarian authorities are considering building a 484km long fence across their southern borderline with Greece fearing that after the blocking of the Balkan refugee route and the rift between the EU and Turkey, refugees and migrants would seek entry into the EU via the Bulgarian route. The Bulgarian government echoes concerns voiced by the residents of the small town of Rezovo on the borders with Turkey, as the collapse of the deal between the EU and Turkey on the refugee issue would attract flows into the EU via their town. To prevent this prospect Bulgaria announced it would extend the current 3.5 meter high, 30km long border fence with Turkey to cover the whole 240km line separating the two countries. Bulgarian PM Boiko Borishov announced his country would receive 6 million Euros in support, after taking with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the phone. Bulgaria is also expected to see the contribution of Frontex security forces increased with the addition of more personnel, vehicles and technical equipment in an effort to stem human trafficking.
