In international football it is convention for the national anthems of the teams to be played before the kick off. Sometimes the organisers of the matches choose to take the safe route and use playback audio, but on other occasions they opt for a live performance by a band. The Dutch organisers of Thursday’s friendly between Greece and the Netherlands went for the latter option, which proved a bad decision. The band ‘butchered’ the Greek national anthem.
