The Supreme Court of Greece (CoS) released a harsh resolution condemning press reports that leaked personal information about one of the judges participating on the CoS ruling on the controversial TV licensing tender. The statement accused those releasing such reports as attempting to put pressure on the judicial system and compromising the independence of the judges. Referring to pro-SYRIZA left newspaper “Avgi”, which disclosed the name of the judge, the resolution by the Supreme Court Association of Judges underlined that the “The recent press reports, in light of their content, and especially their their timing arouse reasonable suspicions that they are are not aimed at informing the public, but to bend the will of the judges and to influence the judicial system in delivering justice”. The resolution goes on to stress that violating the personality of someone could not be justified in the course of one exercising freedom of press.
