Migrants riots and burn Moria hotspot on Lesvos (photos-video)

EU asylum offices burnt down

Newsroom October 24 12:13

A refugee and migrant uprising is currently underway at the Moria hotspot on the island of Lesvos. Riot police units and the fire department have been called in to the reception centre in an effort to contain the situation. Hundreds of mainly Pakistani migrants started rioting, protesting for the long delays in the processing of their asylum applications and their “entrapment” on Lesvos. Some sources report that workers employed at the camp abandoned the it once the situation got out of control and the migrants set fire to the facilities. Fire engines are battling to put out the blaze that spread fast, while riot police unit entered the compound and managed to restore order. The EU asylum services tweeted that their offices had been completely destroyed, but their staff were all safe.
