According to a medical report issued Monday afternoon, the 39-year-old lawyer and former Member of Parliament Thanos Plevris was admitted into intensive care yesterday with a presentation of acute sepsis following an infection, according to a medical report.
The term sepsis is often used interchangeably with septicemia, a serious, life-threatening bacterial infection of the blood that gets worse very quickly and is often fatal. In the case of Mr. Plevris, according to the medical report, the bacteria staphylococcus, which has a heavy impact on the body, was responsible for his critical condition.
The medical report said: “Because of the severity of his condition, he was admitted to the intensive care unit where he remains intubated on life support,” explaining that “there had been vascular interventions at other medical institutions that may have had something to do with or led to the acute sepsis of the patient.”
“All the appropriate procedures were followed on the part of Athens Medical Center, both conservative and invasive. The condition of the patient is considered extremely critical,” the report concluded.
