Clashes broke out between migrants and police at the hotspot of Souda on the island of Chios, Wednesday night, which resulted in damaged cars and a fire at the refugee facilities. According to local eyewitness accounts, raging migrants started throwing fireworks, which they had stolen from a nearby store, against adjacent houses at 11pm. The migrants then returned to the refugee camp and set it on fire. Most of the camp has been destroyed. Once local residents started coming out of their houses to see what was going on and defend their properties, they were attacked by the migrants with stones, which resulted in 4 cars being damaged. Eventually anti-riot police units pushed migrants back into the destroyed camp and proceeded to arrest a large number of the rioters. Authorities believe the attack had been planned in advance, a theory supported by the fact that they had a taser in their possession.
