The leaders of the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Britain and Spain are meeting in Berlin in a mini-Summit to discuss matters of global economic and political interest. The agenda of talks at the mini-Summit, hosted by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, between UK PM Theresa May, Spanish PM Mariano Rajoy, Italian PM Mateo Renzi, French President Francois Hollande and US President Barack Obama will include the Syrian conflict, the global economy, Russia’s role, and the Brexit. The leaders of the five nations will also examine the impact of the US elections and the concerns in Europe over whether President-elect Donald Trump will reaffirm the international treaties on climate change and the nuclear deal with Iran. German authorities have beefed up security measures in the centre of Berlin, with the metro services being suspended, while parking around the area has been prohibited at the historical “Adlon” hotel at the Brandebourg Gate, where the US President Barack Obama is staying.
