After the parliamentary debate on the 2017 budget, Union of Centrists leader Vasilis Leventis revealed that Greek elections would be held on January 22, 2017.

Specifically, Mr. Leventis said that "what emerged from Mr. Tsipras's speech in
parliament is that the government is at odds with our lenders, and especially
with the IMF. In one part of his speech, in fact, he said that 'the lenders should
adjust' to the fact that there will be no further compromises on Greece's part,
and he asked New Democracy to take a position concerning the IMF's
demands."

Leventis noted that “for us, this means that new elections will be announced before the end of the year, because Mr. Tsipras also wants to avoid the stigma of being the lowest bidder in the January 12 conference concerning the Cyprus issue. Consequently, the most likely election date is January 22, 2017. A speech in which throughout, Mr. Tsipras spoke about elections in 2019, but one in which, in one small passage, he admitted that there would be an escape through elections.”
