“Πόλεμος πάντων μὲν πατήρ ἐστι, πάντων δὲ βασιλεύς” or in English:
“War is the father of all things” is a saying attributed to ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus. And the truth is that people have been in conflicts and waring since the dawn of civilisation. The ultimate goal of achieving peace throughout the world has always been elusive, as its is questionable whether people have actually managed to stay at peace with each other for long periods of times throughout history. But there is another another ancient Latin adage which says : “Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum”, meaning “if you want peace, prepare for war”, which is attributed to Roman writer Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus. So if we are to take heed in the saying of the wise of the old days, war is inevitable and one of the ways to avoid it is to actually prepare for its eventuality. Judging by the increasing amount of weapon systems produced by all the nations and their investment in technological warfare, both Heraclitus and Renatus were absolutely spot on. Here are some of the weapons that you might think are from a futuristic sci-fi movie but are actually in use.
