Spain and Bayern Munich star Xabi Alonso has announced he would be retiring at the end of the season in a tweet he posted. The 35-year-old star, who has won top honours at club level with Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, as well as two European championships and one world cup with Spain, posted a picture of him waving goodbye with the comment: “Lived it. Loved it. Farewell beautiful game.” Alonso told Bayern’s TV channel: “It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but I believe it’s the right time.
He added: “I always thought it would be better to quit sooner rather than later. I still feel good, but I believe this is the right moment.”
