The Greek archeological council has decided to designate 289 acres at the Hellinikon former airport as an archaeological site with 15 to 1 votes. The council members were invited to vote on the basis of two proposals:
– One planned to declare an archaeological site of 700 acres
– And the second, finally adopted, provided an area of about 300 acres (280, ultimately) to be declared an archaeological site.
The Greek archaeological Council is in session deciding on whether an area of 400 or 700 acres at the Hellinikon former airport is designated an archaeological site. The Council has been in session for the 9 straight hours. The initial proposal was for 3,000 acres to be designated as an archaeological site.
