“Providing debt relief to Greece would be a “wise move” with benefits for the future”, stated Italy’s former prime minister Massimo D’Alema and candidate senator for the left-wing party “Free and Equal” for the March 4 elections.

“Debt relief is necessary, both for Greece’s economic development and because such a move would help Europe as a whole, since it is not good for the Union if a member-state is facing difficulties”, he was quoted as saying.

Regarding the efforts to form a new government in Germany, D’Alema mentioned that the hope is to change direction since the Social Democrats have referred to the need for change in the country’s European policy with an emphasis on development.
