An 11-year-old gave birth to a baby in Murcia, Spain, after she was rushed to hospital due to “severe stomach pain”.
The girl’s parents called an ambulance believing their daughter was suffering from a serious colon problem because of intense pain she was feeling.
But when they arrived at the emergency of La Arrixaca Hospital on Friday, doctors realised that the girl was ready to give birth.
According to the newspaper “Cadena Ser”, neither the girl nor her parents from Bolivia were aware of the pregnancy.
The hospital authorities have alerted the police and social services to investigate the circumstances under which the 11-year-old became pregnant and determine whether she was sexually abused.
The girl, whose name is not published, is not the youngest registered mother in Spain. In October 2010, a 10-year-old gave birth at Jerez Hospital.
