A very impressive statue was brought to light during excavation works for the underground metro network in the city Thessaloniki, Macedonia.
The headless statue is attributed to the ancient Greek goddess of love Aphrodite and was found on the work site of Ag. Sophia, as the chairman of the Metro S.A company Yannis Mylopoulos, informed the public through a post on his Facebook wall, where he even named the statue “Aphrodite of the Thessaloniki Metro”.
“This headless Aphrodite is the most recent among the 300,000 and perhaps one of the most…finely-shaped findings of the archaeological excavations of the Thessaloniki Metro”, wrote Mr. Mylopoulos.
