Portland is bracing for potential clashes at a right-wing group gathering. The right-wing protesters called “Proud Boys” are marching in Portland, while leftists Portland Antifa counterprotesters are also gathering.
Demonstrators are gathering in the northwestern US city for a “Freedom March” organised by Joey Gibson, a prominent right-wing figure, a supporter of President Donald Trump and Republican candidate for US Senate in neighbouring Washington state.
Gibson heads Patriot Prayer, a group that has been protesting in Oregon, Washington and California since early 2017. In the past, his followers have engaged in street brawls with anti-fascists and other counter-demonstrators.
