A 4.1 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale hit the port town of Kyllini on the north-west coast of the Peloponnese at 13.54 on Wednesday.
According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the tremor had a depth of 8km, while the European Seismological Institute measured the quake at 4.5 and a depth of 2.5km.
The earthquake was felt in the region of Messinia, while there were no reports of damage or injuries.
