Answering a question of the Hellas Journal website, a US State Department spokesman described the Turkish actions as provocative steps that escalate tensions in the region.
“The United States remain deeply concerned by Turkey’s stated plans for natural resource exploration in the waters of Cyprus. These provocative steps increase tensions in the area. We urge the Turkish authorities to stop these operations”, said a State Department spokesman.
