Snowstorm “Elpis” – The regions in Greece facing power outages

Attica is facing the most problems

As the snowstorm “Elpis” continues to sweep across Greece, power outages have been reported in different regions. Most are so far limited to Attica, while difficulties are also noted in Evia, some islands, and Crete.

According to the detailed data released by the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO), so far the picture in terms of problems with the distribution network is as follows:

Regional Directorate of Attica – Power outages in Pallini around Marathonos Avenue and Anthousa. The HEDNO crews are working intensively for the restoration of the electricity supply, facing access problems due to the snowfall.

Regional Directorate of Macedonia – Thrace Attica (Territorial jurisdiction of the whole of Macedonia and Thrace) – There are no particular problems in any area. The minimal damages that occurred were dealt with immediately and are related to common issues.

Peloponnese – Epirus Region Address (Territorial jurisdiction throughout the Peloponnese, Western Central Greece, Epirus, and the Ionian Islands) – The minimal damage that occurred was addressed immediately.

Central Greece Regional Directorate (Territorial jurisdiction Thessaly – Eastern Central Greece – Evia – Sporades) – In Evia where the wave of bad weather is severe and the HEDNO crews are facing serious access problems for the restoration of the damages. So far there are damages in Mantoudi in Aliveri in Psachna and Oreos. Also, in the area of Thebes around Lake Yliki and in Pelion to its South Side problems have been observed. As far as power in the Sporades is concerned, there appear to be no problems so far.

Directorate of Islands Region (Territorial jurisdiction Crete, Rhodes, Dodecanese, islands of the North and Central Aegean and part of the Cyclades) – The bad weather has so far affected the islands of the northeastern Aegean (mainly Lemnos, Chios) and the Cyclades (mainly Naxos, Paros, Mykonos, Syros, Amorgos, Serifos, Kythnos, Sifnos, Milos) and Crete. The most important damages that are in progress are in Chania: The areas where there was a power outage are Vlites, Pythari, Kounoupidiana, Agios Onoufrios, Stavros. An inspection of the Network has already begun to detect the fault.

In Arkalochori, an Electric generator of nominal power 300 kVA has been transferred to the settlement of the earthquake victims. The necessary wiring has been completed and the generator has already been installed and tested.

A two-person crew was sent to the Lassithi Plateau, where there is heavy snowfall, which will remain overnight to deal with the damage immediately.
