Mitsotakis to Tsipras in Parliament: “You never apologized for Mati and Mandra”

The main opposition party who criticized the government for what happened during the bad weather front "Elpis"

Newsroom January 29 09:28

A fierce, not scheduled confrontation broke out in Parliament between Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras, after the speech of the minster of Civil Protection Christos Stylianidis about what happened during the bad weather “Elpis”, especially on Attiki Odos.

Responding to the president of the main opposition party, who criticized the government and stressed that “he is lying, in order to avoid responsibility”, Mr. Mitsotakis took the floor and commented: “I secured 2,000 euros for the drivers who suffered on Attiki Odos”. At the same time, he accused SYRIZA of silence on the issue of the Attiki Odos fiasco.

Also, responding personally to Mr. Tsipras, who accused him of “sham apology”, he said that even if the “apology” of the government is sham, it is better than “no apology of SYRIZA for the 120 dead in Mati”. “You never apologized for either Mati or Mandra”, Kyriakos Mitsotakis added, addressing the president of SYRIZA.

Previously, Mr. Tsipras took the floor and asked Christos Stylianidis to give explanations about the problems caused by “Elpis” in Attica. “You are the ND government minister and you have to give answers”, he said.

“It was not only Attiki Odos that was closed. Other roads were closed. Will you tell us where you were wrong? Will you ever take any responsibility?” he further stressed. He added: “You are lying to us to avoid responsibility”.

For his part, Christos Stylianidis, during his speech in Parliament, referred to the mistakes made last Monday on Attiki Odos, blaming the management company. He had also pointed out that there was a plan, but no coordination.
