From February 9, the obligation to show proof of vaccination or illness to enter restaurants and other places of entertainment will be lifted in the Czech Republic.
The Czech government will lift its healthcare restrictions next week for citizens to enter restaurants and other entertainment venues, allowing those who have not been vaccinated against covid-19 to enter, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said.
The country of 10.7 million people, which was hit hard by previous waves of the epidemic, has seen a sike in Omicron cases. However, given the low severity of the variant officials expect a reduction in cases in February.
The Ministry of Health announced a record number of daily cases on Tuesday, 57,226, and nearly 10,000 reinfections. Yesterday, 43,307 new cases and more than 7,000 re-infections were recorded.
However, the number of hospitalisations has not increased and remains lower than that recorded at the peak of previous waves of the pandemic, which is why the government decided to relax some restrictive measures.
From February 18, the mandatory coronavirus test for company employees and schools will be lifted.
The obligation to use a mask indoors will remain in force as well as the restrictions on the number of people attending events.
