The tones were expected to rise in Parliament in the debate on the bill of the Ministry of National Defense regarding the strengthening of the country’s defense.
The Prime Minister initially referred to the supply of 6 additional Rafale, 3 Belh@rra frigates and 44 Sea Hake Mod4 submarine torpedoes.
As he said, the message that the parliament is called to send today is a message of unity and national responsibility.
He added that the bill that is voted today for serves 2 key objectives:
– Strengthen the national arsenal which is the twin pillar of our diplomacy
– To emphatically upgrade in practice the geopolitical position of Greece on the European and world map
For the first time, the Ministry of Defence developed such armament programs so quickly. Not because it was imposed by the provocations of our neighbors but also in order to take advantage of the situation to promote the broader concept of European autonomy.
“We are talking about a defense strategy with a political content. The description of such a complex policy sounds simpler than its implementation. Requires interventions and fine handling”, said the Prime Minister.
Continuing, the Prime Minister said: “The main part concerns the Belh@rra frigates. The ten-year crisis delayed the strengthening of the Navy. The HN staff thoroughly studied all the solutions. The surface and the bottom are completely shielded”.
As Mr. Mitsotakis said, “the new frigates are cooperating with the new Rafale fighter jets, the first of which we received at Tanagra airport. As they will work with the new Romeo helicopters. The options are connected with the simultaneous supply of the heavy torpedoes. The new frigates will welcome next to them 4 new smaller surface ships”, the Prime Minister noted, saying that “decisions will be made by the end of summer”.

The president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, was on the podium of the Parliament next. Earlier, the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, criticized SYRIZA for not voting on these agreements but also for the statement of SYRIZA Defense adviser, George Tsipras, that the country’s defense is not an end in itself.
The president of SYRIZA said that “I listened to you carefully and especially referring to the wave of increased prices, insisting on a policy that leaves Greek society unprotected, claiming that we will not go into deficits again and international unreliability. The citizen who does not have money to pay for electricity while you are voting for 7 billion pieces of weapons is listening to you say this and you are telling us that we will not return to the deficits. Have you not learned anything?” said the president of SYRIZA.
