UPD – Covid-19 €100 scrapped from April 15 in Greece

The fine concerns those over 60

Newsroom March 23 12:01

Minister of Health Thanos Plevris said in Parliament the Covid-19 fine amounting to 100 euros monthly for the unvaccinated over 60-years old will be scrapped on April 15.

“From April 15, the fine of 100 euros will be suspended for those over 60 who remain unvaccinated. The amount up to 300 euros corresponding to April 15 will be collected. The measure will be reviewed in September, so it is suspended for the remaining months.

“The government’s decisions on the matter will be based on the recommendations of the Expert Committee”, the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, stated.

Deputy Minister of Health, Mina Gaga announced the suspension of the administrative fine of 100 euros for those who have not been vaccinated over the age of 60.

Speaking to SKAI TV on Wednesday morning and referring to the vaccination, Gaga noted that in the summer those who are not vaccinated over 60 will not have to pay the administrative fine. Asked when the decision to repeal the measure would be taken, she said: “We will see, probably from next month.”

She added that if the coronavirus cases were limited to 200-300 per day then there might be even more relaxation of the measures, but stressed that time had not yet come. Speaking about the fourth dose, the Minister said it was only being considered in certain categories of immunocompromised individuals.

Yesterday, the general secretary of Primary Health Care, Marios Themistokleous, in an interview on SKAI TV did not rule out the possibility of temporarily abolishing the administrative fine of 100 euros for those who have not been vaccinated over 60 years. More specifically, when asked if the temporary revocation of the certificate could lead to a temporary revocation of the fine, he replied:

“All this is currently under consideration. The administrative fine is something that paid off and continues to pay off, because – even if there are very low appointments, at the moment we continue to record appointments for the first dose. All this is taken into account. The main purpose of all of us (…) is to return fully to normalcy, but this is too early now”.
