A big explosion and a fire broke out on Thursday morning in the occupied port of Berdyansk in Ukraine, as can be seen in photos and videos circulating on the Internet.

The port of Berdyansk is located about 75 km northwest of Mariupol, on the outskirts of Zaporizhia.

According to Ukrainian media reports, citing announcements by the Ukrainian Navy and Kiev officials, a Russian Alligator-class landing ship and an ammunition depot were destroyed in the occupied port, while fire appears to have broken out on two more ships.

H I Sutton, a respected naval analyst, later said it is ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ that an Alligator-class ship had exploded at the port. It marks the largest ship that Ukrainian forces have managed to strike so-far.
