With good weather across most of the country, unseasonably warm temperatures and light winds, the first day of 2025 will pass, with conditions remaining nearly unchanged through the weekend.
The EMY forecast for today Wednesday, January 1, is for generally clear weather with a few clouds that will be locally overcast in Crete.
Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be locally limited and fog will form.
Winds will be variable 2 to 4 and in the Aegean north to 5 Beaufort.
The temperature will reach 14 degrees Celsius in the north, 15 to 17 degrees Celsius in the rest of the regions and 18 degrees Celsius locally in the Dodecanese and southern Crete. In the northern mainland in the morning hours there will be frost in places.
In the morning and in the afternoon there will be slight rainfall in some parts of the region.
In particular, in Macedonia and Thrace we expect generally clear weather with a few clouds in the east. The winds will be variable 2 to 3 Beaufort, and in the east in the morning hours east northeast locally 4 Beaufort.
In the Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea and Western Peloponnese, the weather will be clear with a few clouds in the Ionian Sea, variable winds and a temperature of 5 to 17 degrees Celsius.
Similar weather conditions will be in Eastern Central Greece and Evia and Eastern Peloponnese
We expect fair weather in the Cyclades, Crete, the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese, as well as Thessaly.
In Attica, the weather will be generally clear with winds from northerly directions of 3 to 4 and in the east in the morning hours locally 5 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 6 to 16 degrees Celsius.
In Thessaloniki, the weather will be generally clear, with winds of 2-3 Beaufort and a temperature of 2 to 14 degrees Celsius.
On Thursday, we expect generally clear weather, but from noon mainly in the west, clouds will develop in places.
Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be locally limited and fog will form.
Winds will be variable 2 to 4 and in the Aegean Sea will blow southwest 4 to 5 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly and will reach 14 degrees Celsius in the north, in the rest of the regions 15 to 17 and locally in the Dodecanese 18 degrees Celsius.
On Friday there will be a few clouds, mostly in the west and the eastern and southern Aegean Sea, where there will be some local rainfall, but the phenomena will intensify in the evening hours.
Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be locally limited.
Winds will blow from the south at 3 to 4 Beaufort, in the Ionian Sea up to 5 and in the Aegean Sea 5 to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly, mainly in the south, towards its maximum values.
In the northwestern continental areas in the morning hours there will be frost in some places.
On Saturday clouds are forecast throughout the country, with local rain. Isolated thunderstorms will occur in the west and the eastern Aegean.
Winds will blow from southern directions 3 to 4 and in the Aegean Sea locally up to 5 Beaufort. After noon the winds in the northeast will shift to northeast winds of 5 to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop in the north towards its maximum values.
Finally, on Sunday, we expect clouds throughout the country, partly cloudy with local rain. Sporadic thunderstorms will occur in the north and the eastern and southern Aegean, but in the evening the weather will improve in most areas.
Winds will blow in the west and the north from northerly directions 4 to 5 and in the northern Aegean Sea 6 to 7 Beaufort. In the rest of the country, the winds will initially blow from the west and southwest with low intensity, but gradually from noon onwards northerly winds of 5 to 7 Beaufort will prevail in these areas as well.
The temperature will drop slightly in the south.
