-UPD –

The firefighting forces in Samos are being reinforced, as the large fire that broke out in the East of the island continues to rage uncontrollably since noon.
According to the fire service, there are 49 firefighters with 3 land units, 12 vehicles, 3 firefighting aircraft, and 1 helicopter that are assisting in the coordination of the operation.

A fire brigade unit is expected to arrive soon on the island from Attica. 14 firefighters are going to the island by boat from Piraeus with 7 additional vehicles to support the operation.

Assistance is provided by 40 volunteer firefighters, construction machinery, and water-carrying trucks from the local authorities. All the Fire Services of P.E. Samos have been put on full alert.

As it became known from the Ministry of Defence, an elderly person has been brought in for questioning as it is believed he is at fault for causing the fire.
