Large forest fire raging out of control in Halkidiki (photos)

There are units operating on the ground and from the air

A fire in the area of Halkidiki in Macedonia, northern Greece is raging since early Monday morning in an inaccessible forest area, in Mola Kalyva, in Kassandra.

150 firefighters with 40 vehicles and six ground units are operating on the spot, while four Canadair CL-415 planes contributing to quench the flames.

According to the Fire Brigade, so far no houses are under threat, however, according to the latest reports, strong winds are impeding efforts to control the flames.

“The fire is still burning uncontrollably. There are outbreaks in many places, which are inaccessible as it is a forest. The whole Fire Brigade officers have been mobilised with coordinated efforts being made by ground and air forces. At the moment, houses are not facing danger, but the fire should be reduced so that there is no problem “, the mayor of Kassandra, Anastasia Chalkia told protothema.gr.
