According to government sources, the discussion focused on the situation in Ukraine and ways to provide practical support to the Ukrainians.
Greece is reminded that it had assisted with defense equipment and the Americans are making every effort to support the Ukrainians in the new phase of Russia’s attack on the Eastern Front.
There is intense concern about the humanitarian situation, especially in Mariupol.
Cyprus plans surveillance system to stem migrant crossings
According to a statement by State Department’s Ned Price, Anthony Blinken thanked the Greek Prime Minister for his firm support in Ukraine, including the strong imposition of sanctions but also extensive humanitarian and defense assistance. Athens has pledged to rebuild the maternity hospital in Mariupol.
According to the US State Department spokesman, the two men discussed additional ways to help Ukraine as it defends itself against the provocative and brutal war by Russia.
At the same time, Mr. Mitsotakis and Anthony Blinken discussed the forthcoming meeting of the 3+1 (Greece, Cyprus and Israel, as well as the United States) for the strengthening of energy and economic cooperation.
