Gazprom – Russia: The largest gas installation in Europe is on fire (video)

The fire has been contained but there are fears of supply disruptions and further increases in gas prices in Europe

Newsroom June 16 07:02

A big fire broke out in the largest gas installations in Russia, as a result of which concerns were raised for the interruption of energy supply in Europe.

According to a DailyMail report, the fire was caused by a pipeline explosion.

According to Gazprom, the fire broke out at 2:30 in the morning in the Urengoyskoye gas field in the Yamalo-Nenets region of Siberia.

It is the largest active gas field in the world (10 trillion cubic meters) which supplies mainly Europe via the Yamal-Europe pipeline.

It is noted that the facilities were immediately evacuated.

And while the energy giant has made it known that the fire has been contained there are fears of supply disruptions and further increases in gas prices in Europe.

However, Gazoprom stressed that it was still analyzing the extent of the damage caused by the fire and added that there was no interruption in supply.

It is noted that a similar incident occurred in 2021 at the same facilities, with gas prices then skyrocketing.

A similar fear exists now, as the biggest portion of this deposit is exported to Europe, but also to the east, supplying China.
