Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said he was in favour of political stability and the holding of elections at the end of the four-year term, pointing out that he is not looking wairing for a “clearing” to go to the polls.

Specifically, as he said in an interview he gave on Thursday morning to the SKAI 100.3 FM radio station, “the elections will be held at the end of the four-year period for reasons of institutional order and stability in a critical juncture, such as the one we are going through”.

“The final stretch should not be an alibi to put down our working pencils “, he emphasised in reference to his Ministers.

As he said, “I understand why election scenarios are being thrown around, but I am not looking for a favourable ‘poll opening’ to hold elections”, adding that he feared the simple majority electoral system, calling it a ‘ticking bomb’.

The prime minister made it clear that even if his party had to pay the political cost due to the difficult winter ahead, he was willing to take that risk in favour of stability. “I will not play with the institutions. I want to be judged at the end of the four years.”

“The country is better served by one-party governments, I want to ensure the country’s governmental stability. I take the risk of stability and if it has a political cost, so be it,” said the prime minister.

When asked what could happen between the first and second ballots, he called this discussion premature, but said: “An independent ND does not mean a one-party government.”
