Greek President Sakellaropoulou visits war-torn Ukraine (photos)

She was accompanied by Defence Minister Panagiotopoulos

Newsroom November 3 02:30

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou is in Ukraine accompanied by the Minister of National Defence Nikos Panagiotopoulos. Mrs. Sakellaropoulou went to the towns of Borodyanka, Bucha, and Irpin, which were affected by the Russian bombings, where she had talks with the local authorities and residents.

In Bucha, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou toured the area where mass graves of Ukrainian citizens were found in the vicinity of the church of Saint Andrew and saw a photographic exhibition with civilian victims of the war.

The visit of Mrs. Sakellaropoulou was scheduled for mid-October, but due to some obstacles, as a result, the visit was rescheduled. The visit of the President of the Republic is highly symbolic and a clear message of support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. The Greek President has often spoken about the threat of revisionism, as manifested in Ukraine, while she has opened the doors of the Presidential Palace for citizens displaced from Ukraine.

Peskov: if Kiev refuses our conditions for peace, we will continue to fight Ukraine

Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos will meet, among others, with his Ukrainian counterpart, Oleksii Reznikov, which will be interesting, in the shadow of Greece’s delivery of BMP -1 armoured vehicles to war-torn Ukraine. Greece broke, after all, a traditional tactic of neutrality in the Ukraine conflict, by delivering defence material, but also the armoured vehicles it replaced with German Marder technology.
