Most visitors to Anafi come in search of peace and relaxation, content to hop between the beach and Chora, but the island rewards those who like to meet the challenge of discovering the unknown facets of the Anafiot countryside. With little in the way of infrastructure, the only way to reach the more isolated areas of the island is on foot or by boat.
Hiking
An 18 km network of trails and paths makes Anafi an ideal destination for hikers. Climb Mount Vigla with its astonishing views, head up to the summit of Kalamos for sunset vistas over the blue Aegean, or visit the ancient city of Kastelli where the first inhabitants made their home.
From the old mule path that snakes its way up to Chora from the port to the trails that service the remoter coves and beaches, Anafi should be explored on foot at least for some of the time spent there, in fact for many it’s one of the primary reasons for visiting the island.
