The largest ruby to appear at auction is expected to realize more than US$30 million at a Sotheby’s sale of magnificent jewels on June 8 in New York.
Weighing 55.22 carats, the Estrela de Fura was unveiled after the completion of a luxury sale at Sotheby’s on Wednesday in Hong Kong. The ruby will soon embark on a touring exhibition to Singapore, Geneva, Dubai and other global cities.
The ruby was cut and polished in the last few months from a 101-carat raw stone unearthed in July 2022 at a ruby mine in Montepeuz, Mozambique. The mine is owned by FURA Gems, a Dubai-based colored gemstone mining and marketing company established in 2017.
