A 4.8 Richter earthquake outside Atalanti, in the area of Lokrida Fthiotida, occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The tremor was also particularly felt in Athens.

According to the Geodynamic Institute, the tremor occurred 13 km southwest of Atalanti, while the focal depth was 13.6 km.

This vibration was followed by two smaller ones within less than 10 minutes after the main one. The first was 2.5 Richter 9 km NW of Orchomenos and the second 2.6 Richter 5 km SW of Atalanti.

In his first statement, geologist Efthymios Lekkas, noted that “the region experiences earthquakes due to a known fault and this is positive. It is too early for estimates. In Athens it was felt mainly in tall buildings. We had no damages reported.”
