The firefront in Dervenochoria has flared up again, resulting in a complete evacuation order for the settlements of Panorama and Pournari. The fire is moving to the west and heading towards Vilia and Oinoi, according to the latest information.
The latest information about the situation on the tough firefront in Dervenochoria was relayed shortly after 9:30 in ERT by the press spokesman of the Fire Department, Vassilis Vathrakogiannis, who said the front has flared up.
“We are making great efforts to contain it,” Vathrakogiannis added, explaining that planning has been made for aerial means “so that there are continuous water drops” until sunset that can be flown by aircraft and helicopters involved in firefighting.
Ground force operations are focused on the east and west sides of the fire perimeter in Dervenochoria, as there is dense forest there. Meanwhile, the air forces operating have been reinforced, while there is still great difficulty due to the density of the forest and the ruggedness of the area.
The firefront started from a point between the villages of Panaktos and Prasino, burning the Paladoni forest. The inaccessibility of the spot makes it extremely difficult for firefighting aircraft and helicopters to approach, exacerbating the danger for the crews of the means thrown into the battle of extinguishing.
Meanwhile, a message via 112 was sent to residents of Attica and the wider area around Dervenochoria, urging them to stay indoors and close doors and windows due to the ongoing forest fire.
