A shepherd was found dead in his barn between the area of Prodromos and Saranti beach, due to the fire that has broken out in Boeotia.
According to radiothiva.gr, the elderly cattle farmer in Chostia lost his life when he tried to save his animals from the fire raging in the area. The elderly man apparently fainted while trying to save the livestock and ended up dying from the fumes.
The deputy governor of Boeotia, Fani Papathoma, for her part, said that the situation is very difficult.
“The fire front is very large and the winds are particularly strong. We are trying with difficulty to hold it back,” says the mayor of Thebes, George Anastasiou, to Athens News Agency.
According to the mayor, a settlement near the Saranti area has already been evacuated after the message from 112 while he notes “At the moment the front is less than 1,000 metres from the houses, but the winds are particularly strong. Helicopters are operating along with strong ground forces volunteers and local residents along with machinery that has been made available. It is very difficult.”
52 firefighters with three units of hiking teams and 16 vehicles have been mobilised while three aircraft and a helicopter are operating.
Around 09.00 this morning, the fire brigade was notified that a fire broke out in an agroforestry area.
