They attacked police forces - Citizens were trapped in a parking lot due to the riots

Newsroom February 8 06:45

Violent clashes erupted Thursday afternoon (8/2) around the Law School in central Athens, following the end of the students rally.

Due to the clashes, about ten citizens were trapped in an underground parking lot on Sina Street, while around six in the evening, a riot police water cannon vehicle arrived in the area of the clashes to extinguish the fires. One police officer has been injured.

Earlier on Thursday, students participating in the students rally against the establishment of non-state, non-profit universities took to the streets of central Athens.

Students gathered in the Law School building to hold a nationwide coordinating meeting regarding the future of the mobilizations.

Some individuals remained outside the school, while strong riot police forces were positioned on Sina Street.

According to the police, at least 15,000 people participated in the rally.
