A protest rally is taking place outside the Olympion Cinema, where the documentary “Stray Bodies”, which has its world premiere today at 20:00 at the 26th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, is being held.

Heavy police forces were deployed early outside the Olympion cinema in Thessaloniki, following a protest call by far-right organisations demanding the withdrawal of the documentary’s poster.

The gathering defied the ban on protest rallies announced by the ELAS for Thessaloniki from 14:00 noon to 00:00 pm.

The ban was deemed necessary as there was an online call for a protest at Olympion today at 19:00 in the afternoon regarding the poster of the documentary depicting a naked pregnant woman on a cross.

At the same time, there was also a call from people from the anti-authoritarian movement for a rally of the far-right.

Strong riot police and security forces have been deployed at the site and around the Olympion, two hours before the screening of the film, while Aristotelous Square.

At around 18:00 in the afternoon, a group of anarchists gathered early in front of the Venizelos statue, in the ancient market square, to protest the gathering of a nationalist organization.
