The arrests of three people, including a deputy mayor, proceeded police officers of the Department of Environmental Protection of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate, after appropriate use of information, on uncontrolled dumping of waste branches and other solid waste.
These are two truck drivers, a 49 year old and a 46 year old, and a 47 year old deputy mayor of the municipality of Volvi against whom a criminal case was formed for violation of legislation concerning environmental protection.
The two drivers were found on Monday morning near a former landfill located in the municipality of Volvi, to throw uncontrolled bulky waste pruning and other solid waste (furniture) acting at the behest of the 47-year-old.
In addition, the police investigation revealed that similar dumping of bulky municipal waste was also carried out in the same place on March 29 by the 46-year-old on behalf of the same municipality, at the behest of the 47-year-old.

It also emerged that, the specific procedure for bulky municipal waste, was carried out at least the last five years by a 54-year-old (municipal official during the previous municipal term), in a forest area, located within an integrated NATURA protection zone and in a National Park Protection Zone, while an informal landfill (H.A.D.A.) was created, from which was partially covered, adjacent to a passing stream.
The arrested persons, with the case file formed against them, will be brought to the competent Public Prosecutor.
