The first statement after the presentation of the New Democracy’s electoral ballot in which Freddie Beleri personally released to protothema.gr. The elected mayor of Himara, who remains detained in Albania without being allowed to be sworn in, thanked Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the unwavering support he has offered him all these months, adding that ‘the battle I am fighting is not personal. It is a battle for the rule of law and democracy, the rules of which must be respected by all. It is a battle for the values advocated by the West and Europe, which must be respected by those who want to join the great European family. It is a battle for the most troubled and marginalised part of the Greek population, the Greek minority in Albania.'”
It is noted that Freddie Beleri was represented at the New Democracy event by his brother, Leonardos, and he was applauded by those present during the announcement of his name
Freddy Beleris’ statement:
“Fellow citizens,
Today, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis offered me the opportunity to compete for the vote of the Greek people in the European elections of June 2024. I thank him for this, but above all I thank him for the unwavering support he has offered me all these months while I have been imprisoned.
The battle I am fighting is not personal. It is a battle for the rule of law and democracy, the rules of which must be respected by all. It is a battle for the values advocated by the West and Europe, which must be respected by those who want to join the larger European family. It is a battle for the most persecuted and unjustly treated part of Hellenism, the Greek minority in Albania. My brothers, who after decades of oppression, want and deserve to live freely and peacefully, without fear, in a place that respects their rights, honor, and property.
I call on every Greek woman and man to support the ballot of New Democracy, to support the Prime Minister who is building with determination and methodically a strong and proud Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.”
