An attack on Iran with missiles on at least one military sites was carried out by Israel early Friday morning according to ABC and CNN.
An American official confirmed to ABC News that Israeli missiles struck a location in Iran. An official told CNN that the target was not a nuclear installation, with unconfirmed reports suggesting Israeli strikes in Syria and Iraq as well. Iranian officials speaking to The New York Times reported a strike on the airbase in Isfahan.
According to the FARS news agency in Iran, an explosion was heard northwest of the Iranian city of Isfahan, same reports were claimed by the Iranian Press TV. However, Iranian officials claimed shortly afterwards that there was no strike on the ground but instead three targets were intercepted. Meanwhile, Tehran assured that its nuclear facilities are safe.
Shortly following the report of Israeli missile strikes, Senator Marco Rubio from Florida posted an update on Twitter stating, “Israel has the ability to strike targets within Iran without entering Iranian airspace from aircraft over Syrian and Iraqi airspace.”

In a second tweet, the Senator disclosed that Isfahan hosts the Khatami airbase and is located northeast of the city.
Shortly after the Israeli strike, Iran cleared its entire airspace and redirected all planes away from missile launch sites, likely preparing for planned retaliatory action.
The explosions took place as Israel promised to respond to a drone and missile attack conducted by Iran against Israel during late Saturday evening.
Earlier the Iranian Foreign Minister, addressing the UN Security Council, pledged that Tehran would make Israel “regret” any attack against the Islamic Republic.
“Our legitimate defense actions and Iran’s countermeasures have stopped, so the Israeli terrorist regime should stop any military adventurism against our interests,” said Hussein Amir-Abdollahian.
“In the event of violence by the Israeli regime and the violation of our national sovereignty, the Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate for a moment to reaffirm its rights, retaliating decisively and sufficiently to make this regime regret its actions,” he added.
