Today marks the completion of the journey of the Olympic Flame in Greece as the handover ceremony will take place this afternoon at the Panathenaic Stadium, in order to continue its route to Paris and the Summer Olympic Games.

As part of the Olympic Flame handover ceremony, tenor Babis Velissarios will perform “Olympionic,” a poem by Pindar interpreted by Giorgos Cheimonas, set to music by Dimitris Papadimitriou, accompanied by the ERT orchestra and choir.

In the context of the ceremony, the Traffic Police will implement traffic regulations in areas of the Municipalities of Megara, Marathon, Lavreotiki, Palaio Faliro, Kallithea, and Athens, through which the Olympic Flame will pass today.

According to the police, gradual and temporary traffic interruptions will occur along the following road sections during tomorrow’s morning and afternoon hours:

– Municipality of Megara (08:00΄- 09:00΄): Minos – around the Central Square of Megara (Ceremony) – 28th October – Byzantio.

– Municipality of Marathon (09:45΄-11:45΄): Lake Marathon – around Dim. Papastamou Square – around Heroes Square – Marathon Avenue – Democracy – Starting point of Marathon Road (Ceremony) – Marathon Avenue (Nea Makri).

– Municipality of Lavreotiki (12:10΄-13:30΄): Rafina-Lavrio National Road (park) – Panagiotis Kokoris – Cultural Center of Lavrio – Agia Paraskevi – Koundouriotis – Sounio Avenue – Archaeological Site of Sounio (Ceremony).

– Municipality of Palaio Faliro (14:15΄-14:40΄): Poseidonos Avenue – around the EUGENIDIS FOUNDATION – Iasonos – Amfitheas Avenue.

– Municipality of Kallithea (14:40΄-15:50΄): Katsoni Avenue – Doiranis – Euripidou – STAVROS NIARCHOS FOUNDATION CULTURAL CENTER (Ceremony) – Syngrou Avenue.

– Municipality of Athens (15:50΄- 18:30΄): Syngrou Avenue – Amalias Avenue – around Syntagma Square – Mitropoleos – Ermou – Athinas – around Omonia Square – Stadiou – Amerikis – University – Patision (28th October) – Alexandra Avenue – Hippokratous – Academias – Vassilissis Sofias Avenue – Herodou Attikou – Panathenaic Stadium (Handover Ceremony).

The Police urge drivers to avoid movement and parking of their vehicles along the mentioned routes of the Olympic Torch Relay and to follow the signals of traffic regulators.
