The First Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament, during his visit to Cyprus, also participated in the event titled “Collective Achievements, Common Challenges, and Future Course as EU Member States – The Role of Parliaments.” Among other things, he stressed the importance of the upcoming European elections and the significance of the massive turnout of EU citizens at the polls on June 9th.

Mr. Plakiotakis went on to stress the importance of upholding fundamental values like democracy, solidarity, justice, and human rights in a world increasingly marked by instability and uncertainty. He warned that failure to do so could lead to alienation and disorientation, particularly among vulnerable populations, fostering populist and extremist movements. During his visit to Nicosia, he held private meetings with the President of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, and the President of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Annita Dimitriou.
