At the mausoleum of Imam Reza in the city of Mashhad where he was born, the death of Iran’s president, Ebrahim Raisi, was publicly announced after the helicopter in which he and eight others were travelling crashed on Sunday afternoon.
“We regret to announce that our leader Ayatollah Syed Syed Ebrahim Raisi, the servant of Imam Reza, who three years ago on the day of Imam Reza’s birth became the eighth president of the Islamic Republic, was martyred on the night of Imam Reza’s birth,” the statement said.
