The presentation of the Thessaloniki Metro Development Study, at the Karapantsio Cultural Centre was attended by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis who announced that “in 6 months we will deliver the most modern and the most beautiful Metro”.
Regarding its extension, he said that “the data will show us where the next steps for the Metro should be taken”, making special reference to north-west Thessaloniki, which must be covered with modern means of transport and the prioritisation of the extension of the Metro there.
On the occasion of the presentation of the study and in view of the European elections on 9 June, the Prime Minister commented that “we must not forget that we can see Europe’s footprint everywhere, both in the financing of the Metro and in the possibility of claiming resources in the future”, stressing that “these claims are not made with sloppiness and wishful thinking but with data and a plan”.
In this context, he asked “not to forget this in the June polls when we go to the polls for the European elections. Let us remember which is the party that has demonstrated in practice that it can assert itself without shouting and bring practical results without being a populist.
“With good luck we will meet at the inauguration of the Thessaloniki Metro before the end of the year, I believe it will be a moment of personal vindication,” the Prime Minister concluded in his address.
The commentary on the football championship:
The Prime Minister’s speech began with a comment on the last day of the football championship, saying that “for the few dissatisfied people there is a chance to bring the cup to the White Tower in the cup final”.
As he added in the same context, “the difficult decisions on the conduct of the championship were justified by the developments. We closed the stadiums, we institutionalised the electronic ticket and despite the fact that the league was decided in the last day of play which can increase passions, the overall picture is similar to European stadiums. And in football we are gradually becoming Europe.

Operation Northern Greece:
As protothema.gr reported this morning, it is obvious that Mitsotakis’ insistence on prefectures in Northern Greece is also aimed at “putting the brakes” on spillovers to parties to the right of the Southwest. It is recalled that last week he was in Pieria, Pella and Imathia, regions where both Hellenic Solution and NIKI have strong nuclei.
A similar case is Thessaloniki. In Thessaloniki, these two parties, together with the Spartans, added up to over 18%, with ND recording a 35% share, six points below the national average.
It should be noted that the Prime Minister will be using the same strategy, highlighting interventions for the daily life of citizens, on Tuesday in three more “difficult” prefectures of WesteNrn Macedonia, Kozani, Florina and Kastoria.
It is recalled that the “rebel” Giorgos Amanatidis was elected regional governor of Western Macedonia in the regional elections, but he has now returned to the ranks of the party and will be at the side of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
