The application had started as a pilot project in Athens and Thessaloniki exclusively for women

Every adult victim of domestic violence, regardless of gender, throughout the country will now have access to the Panic Button, according to a Joint Ministerial Decision. This expansion was necessary due to the extent and intensity of domestic violence incidents.

The Panic Button, provided by Police Departments and Counseling Centers, allows individuals to discreetly alert the police of serious danger via their mobile phones. It operates as a silent alarm, ensuring the perpetrator remains unaware of the notification to law enforcement. The government emphasizes its commitment to protecting citizens and combating domestic violence. The Panic Button’s extension signifies progress in utilizing technology to save lives and prevent violence, fostering a culture of zero tolerance for abuse.
