Italians choose Astypalaea, Naxos and Skopelos for holidays in May

"In recent years, Astypalaia has "invested" in actions to enhance extroversion, thus becoming a pole of attraction for new and "traditional" markets" explains Deputy Mayor of Tourism

Newsroom May 28 04:17

A list of the three most popular Greek islands offered for holidays in May and June has been announced by the most popular Italian travel website My Greek Salad, which specialises in Greek destinations.

According to the Italian website, Astypalea, Naxos and Skopelos offer excellent and multifaceted experiences before the high season, according to the impressions of hundreds of friends on the blog and social media.

In the context of the special, the beautiful Astypalaia is an island of the Dodecanese that “aesthetically” reminds more of a Cycladic island.

The Chora with its mills, the beaches and above all the feeling that time stops here, fascinate Italian travellers. The pioneering ‘green’ project, which will provide 100% sustainable mobility for vehicles, is causing a great international sensation.

Second place goes to Naxos which, as the author of the list points out, is an ideal place for those who love the real Greece, full of sandy beaches, mountain villages, alternative activities and picturesque, enchanting squares dominated by plane trees.

The list concludes with Skopelos which, according to My Greek Salad, is a destination where the blue of the sea and the green of nature are offered in generous quantities and which, despite its reputation as the island of Mamma Mia, has managed to remain authentic, quality and serene.

Representatives of the three municipalities, who in consultation with the website systematically inform the Italian travel public, refer to the trends shaping the new season.

“In recent years, Astypalaia has “invested” in actions to enhance extroversion, making it an attraction for new and “traditional” markets, before and after the tourist peak.

Sustainability, the main component of our new identity now “touches” a category of aware tourists that is constantly growing, “says the Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Astypalaia Costas Kambylis.

“Naxos is evolving into a destination that departs from the sun-sea model and provides a non-mass tourism ‘product’ at reasonable prices that our visitors enjoy from spring to autumn.

Hiking, cycling, diving, water sports, island hopping in the Small Cyclades, gastronomy, traditions and rich history are the reference point for thousands of tourists from Europe, America, Australia and even Asia who want to experience everything they have dreamed of”, emphasises the Deputy Mayor of Tourism of Naxos and Small Cyclades Vangelis Katsaras.

“Skopelos is a unique case of a destination that has not been “squeezed” by the great cinematic success, but remains authentic, making steady steps of progress and gentle development.

Targeted promotion, weddings, alternative activity options and the seamless connection of local production and art with tradition and untouched natural beauty in a Mamma Mia atmosphere led to record-breaking visitor numbers last year and created a new dynamic for 2024,” said the President of the Municipality of Skopelos Tourism Committee, Eva Karamesini.
