Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Chooses to confront the “lifestyle toxicity” of Kasselakis

"We are reliving a repetition of a pre-election act and a political rhetoric that has hurt the country," said the Prime Minister from Corfu

Newsroom May 28 09:02

As we approach the European elections on June 9th, and despite the fact that Kyriakos Mitsotakis targets multiple directions in his limited references to the opposition, one cannot help but notice that SYRIZA President Stefanos Kasselakis is more often in the crosshairs of the Maximos Mansion. This is because, as reported yesterday by protothema.gr, the government team has chosen not to let anything go unanswered, to let nothing slip by.

It is no secret that the lifestyle profile adopted by the SYRIZA president has frequently been the subject of commentary in government circles. For instance, members of the morning coffee group commented both on Sunday and Monday on Mr. Kasselakis’ appearance on the YouTube show of the YouTuber Fipster, where he participated in an online challenge with singers such as Eleni Foureira and Katerina Lioliou. However, Mr. Mitsotakis, although aware of these events, chooses not to target the SYRIZA president for this lifestyle approach per se, but for the fact that it serves as the “wrapper” of the toxicity that harks back to SYRIZA’s historical past.

“We are reliving a repetition of a pre-election act and a political rhetoric that has hurt the country. This time, it may be wrapped in a more lifestyle package, with different communication practices and habits – I do not want to comment on them, every political leader communicates in their own way – but with two characteristics that have not changed compared to the old era of SYRIZA. One is toxicity and the other is lies. These have not changed; they have remained exactly the same,” emphasized Mr. Mitsotakis meaningfully from Corfu yesterday.

Criticism without Personal Attacks

In this regard, the Prime Minister and government officials touring Greece contrast the government’s work with what will be set in motion from now on. Mr. Mitsotakis adopts a low-key approach, avoiding extreme confrontational rhetoric and personal insults, recognizing that citizens currently disdain high polarization and seek solutions to everyday problems. Thus, he attacks SYRIZA on a political basis, criticizing the main opposition party for reviving “money trees” and promising tens of billions for addressing complex problems without the financial resources to make it a reality, as he stated from Corfu.
