The identified 37-year-old confessed culprit responsible for the demise of Vasiliki in Myrtia Ilia was conditionally released. The suspect had been apprehended in 2017 on charges related to the sexual assault of a 14-year-old victim. In 2020, preliminary records indicate that he had been convicted in the initial trial conducted in Zakynthos; however, his plea for a delay in the enforcement of his sentence was granted until the case could be reviewed by the Court of Appeal.
Consequently, he was set free under specific regulations, including mandatory reporting to the local police station. Operating under a deferred sentence, the 37-year-old perpetrator evaded incarceration. Consequently, on the night of Sunday, having essentially evaded punishment for the prior offense of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old, he tragically ended the life of 11-year-old Vasiliki, a child related to him.
