The sons of the 53-year-old British woman, Jean Harlon, who was murdered are currently citing new developments in the case 15 years after the tragic event.

The 53-year-old was found dead in the port of Heraklion in Crete in March 2009, but authorities have never been able to find out exactly how she died. Officials investigating her case confirmed the 53-year-old’s death was a homicide, but said there was not enough evidence to prosecute.

Her friends have confirmed that Jean met a man on the night she died – but he has never been traced and remains the prime suspect in her murder.

In the first forensic report, it was stated that her death was due to drowning in seawater as a result of an injury to the neck with a complete transection of the brain stem, the result of a fall into the water from a height, while in the subsequent supplementary forensic report, it was stated that her death resulted from a fall and impact on the ground and there was an assessment that the woman was carried dead into the sea and there was talk of an accident. Eventually, her death was ruled a homicide, inevitably giving a new twist to the investigation.

The case has extensively occupied the Greek and British authorities, who despite the difficulties want to give an answer to what happened to Jean Harlon that night.

New evidence 15 years later

According to the website Cretalive, Michael James Porter, the youngest son of Jean Hanlon, says that there are developments in the case, as they have hired a private detective, who is said to have contributed to the investigation new information and evidence that lead them to a specific direction.

The family believes that this time the case will be solved as they claim to have identified the person who killed their mother. “Now the puzzle is taking shape and almost complete,” her son Harlon says on the website. “Mom’s voice continues to be heard – more so now than ever.”

How Jean Harlon’s Diary Pointed the Authorities in a Certain Direction

It is recalled that a year ago, an entry in the diary of the unfortunate 53-year-old brought a new element to the case.

In Jean Harlon’s diary, discovered by her sons after her death, Jean recorded her plans to visit her friend Pat’s house to care for her disabled daughter – but, the night before, she was murdered.

As we reported in the corresponding publication, Michael Porter, said: “Her last entry was very simple, just about her normal life. But no mention of online dating, having met someone, or planning to meet someone. So that fact leads me to believe that her going out that night was a spontaneous decision or that she ran into someone she knew.”

Michael said the distance Jean traveled is an additional indicator that the man she encountered was not a stranger. “My mother traveled to Heraklion, which is a 23-minute journey by taxi or car and she didn’t drive and it was winter so the buses weren’t frequent.”

The mother of three had moved to Crete from Dumfries to start a new life in 2005.
