It’s getting cold in several parts of the country today, following a wave of heat that has pushed the mercury up to 44 degrees Celsius. According to weather forecasts rains and thunderstorms are expected today in the north, mainly in eastern Macedonia and Thrace, while in the south the temperature will remain high for the season.
The weather will be mild in the north and south-eastern parts of the region, while the temperatures will be high in the north and south-eastern parts of the country.
In fact, since last night the sudden change of weather affected Veroia, where heavy rainfall with strong winds caused serious problems in the city. Characteristic of the severity of the summer storm was the falling of trees in various places inside and outside the city.
According to local media inveria and veriotis a large tree on Olive Street near the square was “ripped up” and fell to the pavement. The Fire Department rushed to the spot to remove the tree and free the road.
A tree was also uprooted on the Cusius Bridge, crushing a car.
In addition to trees, there were also falls on DEI poles, resulting in half of the city from Ag. Antonio to Ergochori being plunged into darkness.

Marousakis: Dangerous storms and strong winds
As Clearchos Marousakis says in his forecast today, “a cooler air mass will collide with the much warmer air mass and create strong winds that will drive the very warm air mass away. After that – and on Saturday – we’ll go into mild warmth and that looks like it will last into the middle of the new week.”
As OPEN’s meteorologist underlines, “the sharp retreat of the thermometer will lead to strong winds and thus in combination with the very dry atmosphere and surface a particularly high risk of fire. The collision of the very warm air mass with the colder air mass that follows will create strong instability and thus dangerous storms, with emphasis on the northern parts.”
